What is School Direct?

School Direct is a national teacher training initiative, which offers an exciting opportunity to train alongside outstanding practitioners, gaining valuable knowledge, skills and professional attitudes that will enable you to start your personal journey towards becoming an excellent teacher and future leader.

Delta Teaching School Alliance is working in partnership with Sheffield Hallam University to offer School Direct places for 2018/19.  As part of the training you can gain a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).  Two types of School Direct training places are available:

  • School Direct Training Programme (unsalaried) is open to all graduates and funded by tuition fees paid by the trainee, who may receive a bursary from the government.
  • School Direct Training Programme (salaried) is an employment-based route into teaching for high quality graduates with three or more year’s career experience (discretionary consideration given to less).

In addition to this you will have a post-16 experience.  Trainees may be placed in an 11-18 school for one of their periods of school based training and involved in planning, teaching and assisting in KS5 lessons.  For those, who are not placed in an 11-18 school, a four day placement will be organised in a post-16 setting.  You will also be supported in preparing to teach at KS5 through the subject knowledge and pedagogy sessions at the University.  You will not be assessed against the Teachers' Standards at KS5.
