Delta Academies Trust Teaching School Alliance is developing a strategy around research and development to ensure that it is an integral part of the succession planning/leadership development that enables classroom practitioners through to senior leadership to hone and develop their talents. The strategy will focus on the understanding of how this area can support pupil achievement, teaching and learning.
The Alliance is currently working in partnership with Sheffield Hallam University to submit a proposal to the Higher Education Innovation Fund for a proposal centred on the Research Engaged School Network. The purpose of the research is to establish a self-sustaining regional network of research engaged schools, who together with SHU, would work collaboratively to achieve the following:
- Enhance the capacity and skills of groups of schools (e.g. TSAs, Academy chains and Trusts) to engage in research and development that leads to improvements in pupils’ experiences and outcomes
- Identify common pedagogic, professional development and / or leadership and management issues that can be effectively addressed by collaborative R&D as appropriate
- Provide an infrastructure for ongoing communication and knowledge exchange activity
- Provide an infrastructure for collaborating in response to future research and development funding opportunities that require HEI and school partnerships
The aim of the R&D activity that the network members will undertake is improving children and young people’s experiences and outcomes. This is central to the children/young people’s life chances and enabling children/young people to become economically active and therefore contribute to the economic well-being of society.
